Review: Rescue Oil

Hi de hi :)

Back in January, I decided to buy Rescue Oil from Poundland. Yeah, I didn't have high hopes either. It's supposed to be a much cheaper version of Bio Oil, so I bought a bottle to try out, having heard some good things about it on a couple of other blogs. If you'd like to know what I thought, read on :)

The product

Rescue Oil say: Rescue Oil is a specialist blend of natural oils which soothe and improve the appearance of the skin and nails. With regular use Rescue Oil assists in restoring the skin's natural moisture balance and the rejuvenation of wrinkled, sagging skin. It is extremely effective on scar tissue, stretch marks and numerous other skin conditions. Rescue Oil is safe for all ages and is easily absorbed making it ideal for use as massage oil or therapeutic bath oil. Rescue Oil contains a combination of Vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil, Almond Oil and Peach Kernel Oil.

I say: I bought this purely for use on a couple of scars I had on my wrist and arm. As it also claimed that it could be used on blemished skin, I used it on my face where I'm prone to the odd outbreak every now and again. I really can't say that I noticed a huge difference. Bear in mind that I've been using this for almost 2 months now. I think that's a bit disappointing. Then again, it was £1 so I wasn't expecting great miracles. I do think that the burn mark on my wrist, the scar on my arm and the blemished areas on my face have faded a little, but like I said, no huge difference.

Application

Rescue Oil say: Gently massage the required amount into the affected area or add a couple of drops to a running bath.

I say: The box does not specify how often to use this, so I've been using it every night. I think I saw some logic in this as it would sink into my skin and work its magic over night. And I didn't fancy putting it on my face before applying my make up because it is, essentially, oil. Kind of reminds me of the stuff you get left over in the pan after making spaghetti bolognese - you know the orange tinted oil that's left over from the meat and the sauce? I digress. On application, I tend to get about a drops worth of product and massage it into the desired area and leave it overnight. It left my skin shiny but when I woke up that was gone, so it obviously sunk into my skin. I have to say that I don't like the smell of the product - it reminds me of a Homoeopathic clinic my parents used to take my sister to when she was little. I suppose if you're into all that, then you might like it :) On to the packaging, Rescue Oil comes in a fairly sturdy plastic bottle. It has a screw top, underneath which is the bottle neck with a small hole in it. I think it's quite tricky to get the desired amount out. I've found I either get too much or not enough. As long as you're careful with application you'll be fine. I find that a little goes a long way, and as you can tell from the second photo, I haven't used a lot in the two months I've been using it, so it will last a long while. Good job it has an 18 month shelf life ;P
